Rockin’ Robin vs Sassy Starling

Here is a video of an interaction today between a juvenile Starling and a juvenile Robin. It is a fascinating mix of behaviors– curiosity, aggression, mimicry, and befuddlement. I think this would have been a totally different encounter had it been adults.

Since we are on the subject of young birds, I had asked in a previous post who ignores their children more humans or Robins. To answer this question, I’ll end with a short video. Notice the difference in appearance between the adult and juvenile Robins. It goes fast, so watch carefully. (Press this post’s title if you can’t see the video).

  1. It is soooo cute how these youngsters behave toward each other. Totally reminds me of human children….how curious they are about one another, and impressionable.
RE: the robin video, I did see the different coloration between adult and child robins. But I wasn’t sure what was going on. I hear a blue jay calling at the start of the video, and the momma hops onto a branch, away from your young one. But then in the other half of the video, on land, I see two birds but cant quite make out what’s going on!
