To be totally frank, it’s not a puddle but it’s not much bigger either. It’s a watering hole, not in Africa, but in Central Park near the West Side entrance on 81st street. Park designers created this spot, surrounded by a tangle of shrubs and trees, to attract urban wildlife for a drink or a dip. They kindly put a stone bench nearby for those who enjoy birds and squirrels fighting and foraging, teaching their young, preening and nest building. And I happily sit quietly and record their goings-on, giving you a view from my puddle…

I can’t wait to hear more about all the goings-on at your puddle! It reminds me of that series of English books about the women who gossip about their neighbors…what were they called? except for animals.

One of the many draws of this project is your interest in and attention to creatures that are common and not gorgeous in any flashy way. Sometimes nature enthusiasts are all about novelty or drama. This is a very zen endeavor!
